    The School Update

So, a lot has happened since the last time I set foot on this screen and decided to type stuff - most of them college related...actually all of this will be school related.

Towson is an interesting place. After two weeks I still don't even know if I like the place or not. The first week I would have told you I hated the place - my schedule was absolutely screwy, my teachers were not helpful and the campus was much larger and more unfamiliar than a Sasquatch. The second week, I've hammered out a decent schedule, still stuck with some bad teachers (but not all), and basically got all my walking paths to where I need to be logged into my being. With all that said, I just don't know what to say about the place. I mean, I love to learn but in the past two weeks out of all four of my classes, I've only learned a handful of things - Especially in Chemistry and Logic.

The Chem teacher hasn't said anything that I haven't learned in every single science course I've ever taken - unit measurements, conversion, significant figures etc.- and I never took a chemistry class ever. It doesn't help that she is a bit scatter brained and has a thick accent. That worries me when we actually do move onto new things. Also, we had a conversion assignment due yesterday that I almost literally went to class to turn in (I really didn't feel like driving down there) and come to find out she said in class that you could turn in the assignment in next week on Monday for no penalty! What the hell?! Why'd I even do it? God forbid I see a due date as a due date. Logic is a great class and I love the teacher (he also has a thick accent) because he is good at explaining and giving helpful examples but there's a problem with his assignments. He assigns reading and parts of exercises for 1 piece of a chapter (i.e, Chapter 1.2) and the next class he talks all about that and re-assigns the same reading because some people in the class didn't read it. It's a nice gesture but I just don't understand why these retards get the baby treatment (I think they are freshman) while I have to sit in a static position regarding the course material.

Other than those, I have an online Women in Perspective class that is rather interesting. The teacher seems really nice and cool and we can see her actual classes because she records them and posts them online. I've learned a few things in this class but I would venture to say that there is a slight "men ruined this so put that as an answer" bias, as I would think in any woman's study course. Statistics is interesting too. I got the material down pretty good but the teacher is so anal-retentive that it makes the actual class harder than it needs to be. Our homework assignments have to be done by hand on printer paper that is hole punched to fit into a cheap prong-type folder and scanned into the computer and put in order on a Word document. Then that document is put on a flash drive and taped into the notebook with all the paper divided by section with a comprehensive table of contents. Not difficult at all but very time consuming and, as some of my classmates have said, they are having trouble with the material and instead of working on that they use all their time to set up the notebook. I think I'm alright with it for now though but who knows when the material gets harder.

Socially, it's a mixed bag. My statistics class is by far the most comfortable of all my classes. It's in a nice computer lab and the teacher sort of allows for free communication among the students so I talk to basically my whole side of the class room. The other side isn't very talkative - weird how that worked out. My chemistry lecture is alright because I can talk to people around me but it's far too large to have any real talks. Lab is cool, I converse with all the groups around me and that way we help each other out, etc. But there was this one guy who high schooled it up by asking my partner and I to print out 4 copies instead 2 copies of the graph we were making so that he and his partner could leave earlier. I lol'd and didn't do it. Seriously, cut that shit out. There's no communication in the online course...lol. Logic is by far the worst though. There is no one in that class to talk to because it's almost all freshman and all of them are "way to cool for school" lol. So, I sit in the front and stare straight forward all the time.

That's about all I can think of right now.  I got a "perfect" copy of the Bhagavad-Gita from some guy for like $5. It has the original Sanskrit and then the English purports and translation. Neat thing really. Also, this happened (you may have already seen this on a status update via FB but still, it bears repeating):

Towson has a really stellar recycle program. They have found ways to recycle paper cups and Styrofoam plates and eve- oh wait...that's trash. I don't know who thought this was a good idea. After the first person saw trash I guess everyone did and decided to continue it. Who knows. I'm tired of typing now so, I'll do this another time.

    The Ol' Bait and Switch

I really want to put something here...something that, if expressed in picture form, would resemble something like this:

    ^Image belongs to Joe Madureira^

But, since I don't really have much of a coherent idea for any nice feeling blog entry, it usually ends up coming out looking a bit like this:

So clearly, I shouldn't do that to all of my readers - it just wouldn't be fair, or straightforward (points if you can name the commercial I got that from XD).  So, I'll just keep you waiting with bated breath until I can do something better. In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed my analogy :).

    Housekeeping

I haven't posted anything here in an entire month...and I'm not really sure why. It's not like I haven't had some time to do it or that nothing has been going on - it's just something I don't get around to very often (obviously). To start, being a transfer student sucks. I got bottom pick of classes and ended up with Biology, Chemistry, Statistics and Greek Philosophy. Not that I hate those classes -  I would love to learn them with the exception of statistics - I just don't want them all at the same time. But the lady I had for my advising was hopped up on cold medicine and feeling loopy (her confession, not my speculation) so I suppose that adds to the problem. I was trying to tell her that I didn't want to have three labs in two courses I've never had in my life (Stat and Chem) and one I've only dabbled with in tenth grade but to no avail. Not like I had a choice - everything else was taken and that's why all my classes are at 8 in the morning with teachers that people rate as either demonic or plain bad for first time students in the respective subject. It will be a semester of work that's for sure.

Speaking of work, it has been an interesting ride. We switched schedules form the night shift to basically a second day shift (from 3-11:30 to 10-6:15) in the beginning of the summer and it was originally to end at the end of this month allowing me to maintain work with school. However, in a move that can only be described as fateful, the schedule has been extended to October 4th. Clearly this presents some conflict since I'm on campus basically till 3:30 every weekday. They are willing to work with my schedule but I'm not exactly sure how that would go - I may have to work 2 hours every day in September just because I wouldn't even make it back from campus and be ready till 4:15-4:30. We'll see tomorrow when I bring my schedule in and go over it, but also parking has been a real tough endeavor since the reschedule (day shift has a lot of cars).

Speaking of parking, what the fuck is wrong with Towson? I had to pay $250 for a small rectangular tag that tells me it's okay to park on the campus for one year. What? I mean, I'm all for having tags to separate people who should be parking there from the people who shouldn't be parking there but for $250? It's a bit excessive after the admission application fee and the acceptance fee and the class/book fees, don't you think? No? Oh...okay then here's your money. What? There's a questioning the fee policies fee? How much is that? OH...

Anyway, aside from these developments I have been up to basic summer shenanigans. Mowing grass, playing games, watching shows, anime and movies, hanging out with Amanda, the neighborhood kids and anyone else who wants to hangout. I'm playing a lot of games but recently I got hooked on Oblivion again and I don't see it ending anytime soon so the other have collected a bit of dust. My pokemon battle mentioned a month ago has yet to happen since Ringold isn't prepared yet. I don't blame him since I'm helping to tutor him for the ASVAB test he wants to take there isn't any need to push for a frivolous battle. Especially since he'd get smashed. Anime has been interesting. I went and got Howl's Moving Castle. There isn't too much out that I'm watching though aside from Sora No Manimani which is a show about an astronomy club that is both hilarious and slightly educational. I also tried to watch Dragonball for the lulz and didn't make it further than 15 minutes into it. Please don't see that movie. Please.

That's about it here though. I may be forgetting something because I just dont want to type anymore and that probably interferes with my thought process but I can just post it later...or you could wait another month...either way I'm done XD.

    Whatever you wanna call this.

Quiet night here for the fourth. Except for the neighbors and their cookout which has yet to wind down completely, I have seen maybe two whole fireworks all night. I'm not sure if it is because I haven't been looking or if there just aren't that many people setting them off tonight. Either way, I don't really mind. Last year, there was a great explosion right in front of my house in the street thanks to some anonymous asshole with a pyrotechnical fetish of some sort. It stank for a good hour and there were bits of tiny cardboard debris all over the yard. Not that great.

Aside from the obvious festivities or lack thereof, I suppose there is much to say for what has been going on in my area of the planet. Okay so there isn't a ton going on that is important or anything but I generally feel like laying it out.

First, I've found my way of doing something for the world. An Ad I saw on the Discovery Channel directed me to a website known as Findyourmission.org where you can do just that. You can select the type of aid you want to give and to what country you want it to go to. For instance, If I feel really passionately about getting water and electricity to where people are in need of it, I can choose to make all of my donation go to that cause and where I want that to happen. It's a wonderful way to help what and where I want in lieu of me actually going and helping - not that I wouldn't mind you but at the current moment it's really not in the cards . So just as soon as I get myself settled financially I will be able to make recurrent donations on a regular period so that I can slowly help the world in my own little way. It's oddly ironic considering the subject matter of a post I made about doing something for the world...

But anyway, I've also got a bit of news on the useless front. My friend Ringold has challenged me to a serious pokemon battle. I have lent him my Gameboy Advance SP and Pokemon Firered version and I'll be playing the Leafgreen version and whenever he's ready we will throw down and have an all out Pokewar. I've got quite the team set up and I just hope he's ready for an ass kicking - Pokemons are serious business . I'm also looking for some people to fight on my Diamond version but people on the wireless networks scare me. Emily was going to battle me but she got injured at work and so...I'm not really sure how that's gonna go. Speaking of which they aren't paying for her medical care or giving her workman's comp - she might sue but I'm not sure about that either XD. I'm out of the loop. Still, pokemon is still cool after all these years and it's only gonna get better once the re-makes of Gold an Silver for the DS next year.

Let's see...I got EA Sports Active and it's a great workout "game" and I think it really works. If you like Wii Fit or if you never liked Wii Fit you should try EA Sports Active - but only if you want more workout than game - because it is hardly a game at all . Amanda and I saw the Proposal last night. Great movie, we loved all of it but shared the same gripe - Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynold's characters did not have enough alone time to get close. They shared one moment in the movie that counted as "couple" development and everything else was an independent venture. Not that it didn't make sense or that it was unacceptable but it would have been nice to see. Aside from that, it was a great movie. Sandra Bullock had a nude scene with Ryan Reynolds and she looks awesome for a 44 year old . Oh yeah, and I guess Ryan Reynolds is great too (whatever , not what I was lookin at ). I also re-watched all of Trigun and I understood it a lot better the second time around. Vash is awesome and so is Wolfwood but the ending still leaves me wanting more (it's a bit cryptic as well). There is a movie coming out this year revolving around Vash facing off against Wolfwood that is completely separate from the real story line. I am not too excited but I'll wait and see it and who knows, maybe it will be great .

That's about all that's going on right now...I think. I'm doing battle on the 7th with Bungie on Halo 3 to get a special type of armor (Recon). They have a Bungie vs the World playlist that day and if you win in a 4v4 battle, you can has reconz. I'm gonna kick ass but since they made the game...you never know. Still, I've got 24 hours so wish me luck.

Now I'm done with my pointless update of nonsense. I don't have much else to share right now but the next time I do I'll put it here. Till next time!
